A collection of intriguing new collage works from illustrator and graphic artist Martin O’Neill with photographs unveiling his studio and vast archive of found collage material.
In this collection of new work, Martin O’Neill continues to explore the chance relationships and hidden meanings created by his improvised, organic filing system developed over thirteen years of work an illustrator and collage artist. First created during the CATALOG project in June 2006, ‘Dogs & Dice’ is an evolving inventory of O’Neill’s extensive library of collage material and the groupings and sections which organise and divide it.
Using this inventory as an instigator, O’Neill documented thoughts, memories, stories, observations, poems and word experiments as a response to the collection. These then became the starting point for new work that seeks to explore the logic and resultant relationships that order, divide and relate a vast array of component elements, and in doing so, created a new series of compelling collages.
The resultant book is the product of collaboration between Cut it Out and JohnFrumPress, a small London based imprint specialising in “the vernacular and the insurrectionary”.
Martin O’Neill is a leading UK based Illustrator and collage artist with a diverse international client list. He regularly exhibits his collages, prints and collections and is an associate lecturer at the London College of Communication.
“ Illustrator and graphic artist Martin O’Neill has built an international reputation by being so defiantly old-school, analog, hands-on, scissors and paste that he appears almost avant garde. A man among mousemats.”
