This is another restless issue, moving from the uses of bad painting as a conceptual tool (as highlighted by Garder Eide Einarsson and Thomas Muelhenbach) to the complete mastery of the medium as witnessed by Katya Tylevich in the twilit studio of Michaël Borremans, from the threads of Chiharu Shiota’s highly evocative and emotional installations, to the thousands of knots that form Jacob Hashimoto vast flying kites. A restless medium by definition, video-art marks a pause in these pages, while Margherita Dessanay studies the aesthetics of the medium through the work of video artists such as William Lamson, John Wood & Paul Harrison, Alexander Ditmarov, Anne Harild, Oliver Michaels, Fran & Jim Rolland and Alexandra Hughes. This issue also travels in time and space, from Penelope Slinger’s adventures in the swinging London of the sixties, to the impact of 9/11 in post-Soviet Russia as anatomized by the work of cult figure Pavel Pepperstein, to finally offer one a luminous snapshot of recession-hit Barcelona as an art city today (through the work and the words of visual artists such as Javier Pérez, Samuel Salcedo, Martí Guixé and Alex Trochut.)
