NOISE AT MAGMA
22 September 2006 | exhibitions
As part of noisefestival.com, the national showcase of the next generation of new creative talent, NOISE asked MAGMA to host a unique exhibition of NOISE artworks as selected by the editors of Graphic Magazine On the 26th September, just ahead of the launch of noisefestival.com, the national showcase for the best new creative talent. The show at Magma, Clerkenwell Rd, opens a month long exhibition of 200 original artworks from new NOISE artists across a whole range of disciplines including illustration, graphic design, photography, graffiti art, and fine art as selected by Marc Valli, founder of the Magma franchise and editor in chief of Graphic Magazine. The official opening of the Magma exhibition begins with an exclusive preview for the artists, guests and media at 6pm on the 26th September and will close to the public on the 28th October. The Magma show will be a sample of the best of over 4, 000 submissions a selection of which can be seen at www.noisefestival.com, the festival’s main showcase platform. The 3rd October will be the national go live date of the website and the opening of the official NOISE exhibition at Urbis in Manchester. Marc Valli says: “I think that NOISE and Magma are basically trying to do the same things with the same people - showing art that is spontaneous and not necessarily present in the art galleries. A lot of the most important elements of contemporary visual culture are hardly, if at all, featured in the art and museum circuit; the work of fashion, graphic & product designers, illustrators, graffiti artists for example. I think that today, in our thriving, crazy world, it is important to create new ways of showing art”. Graphic is a quarterly publication, surveying international ‘graphic culture’, giving its creators a proper platform to develop new fresh work. The magazine is a perfect partner for www.noisefestival.com which offers a unique platform to young creatives by offering media exposure and access into the creative industries via collaborations with some of the biggest media channels in the country. In addition to Graphic, BBC, MTV, MSN, Blueprint, Digit, Marmalade and .Cent have all provided a variety of programming, air time and column inches to showcase the very best of NOISE talent. Some of the biggest names in the creative industry have selected their favourite NOISE artists to show as part the cross-media festival including: Wayne Hemingway; Peter Saville; artist Stella Vine; designer Mark Eley of Eley Kishimoto; illustrator Insect; photography specialist Penny Martin of SHOWstudio and XFM DJ ICA Music Curator Nick Luscombe. Magma is part of a series of exciting exhibitions across the country to showcase the very best of NOISE talent: a show at Liverpool Biennial Independents to be broadcast on BBC2, midnight the 22nd Sept; Urbis Manchester the official exhibition space for the highlights of the website opening on the 3rd October; a special evening at the ICA which will feature up and coming NOISE DJ’s, new music talent plus NOISE short film, animation and new media work; and finally NOISE will celebrate with a Wrap party on the 31st October at a venue in Brick Lane – see website www.noisefestival.com for invites.
